چکیده

Humans are the only natural reservoir for meningococci. The appropriate specimens that should be taken for isolation of meningococci are dependent on the clinical question. The most appropriate specimen and/or laboratory techniques for microbiological diagnosis in an acutely sick patient with suspected invasive disease like meningitis/septicemia (1) may be quite different from those required for diagnosis of the cause of a local infection in eye, upper respiratory tract, lower respiratory tract, or urogenital tract, or for the study of the carrier state of healthy persons.

Isolation and Identification of Mycoplasma agalactiae by Culture and Polymerase Chain Reaction Methods in the Sheep Herds in Guilan Province, Iran

Contagious agalactia is an infectious syndrome of sheep that is characterized by mastitis with reduction of milk production, arthritis, abortion, and keratoconjunctivitis. The disease is rapidly spread by the contact of the infected animals with the healthy ones. Domestic sheep and goats of both sexes can be infected at an equivalent frequency. Most of the researchers use culture and molecular ...

Culture diagnosis of meningococcal carriers: yield from different sites and influence of storage in transport medium.

Different specimens and techniques have been used in the diagnosis of carriers of Neisseria meningitidis, reflecting the uncertainty about the optimal diagnostic procedure. In the present investigation the culture yield of meningococci from throat specimens was compared to that from nasopharyngeal speimens in 178 persons: 44 carriers were diagnosed. All of them were detected by culture of throa...
